What this is
A holdfast holds a workpiece flat against the benchtop by wedging into a drilled hole under mallet-strike pressure — a different holding method than any screw or lever clamp on this site, useful for planing, carving, routing, or sanding where you need the whole top surface of a board clear of clamp hardware. If the 3-1/2" reach of the POWERTEC 71528 in our holdfasts comparison doesn’t clear your workpiece or bench-dog layout, the extra 3/4" of reach here (4-1/4" total) gives more room to work with, and buying a pair covers holding both ends of a board at once.
Who this isn’t for
The leather pad isn’t pre-installed — you have to glue it on yourself with contact cement before first use, which is an extra setup step the DCT and POWERTEC models in our comparison don’t require if theirs ship pre-padded. If you want it usable straight out of the box, factor that in.
Bottom line
This is a listing-plus-retailer-cross-reference spec writeup, not a hands-on test — we haven’t drilled a bench hole and mallet-struck this to check real holding grip.
